“Easy” is a song that was written by Lionel Richie during his time as the lead singer for the group Commodores. It captures the sound of “going with the flow” and being assured that one has made the right decision for themself.

From the fifth and self-titled  album made by the Commodores, “Easy” was one of the first bluesy ballads released by the well known R&B band. It was a worldwide success.

This song reflects on a journey of one of life’s many changes. It goes through what brings a person to make a decision for a big change in life, in this case the closing of a relationship, and the resulting feeling that comes from knowing it was a decision that brought them peace. The bridge looks to the future with “I want” statements, with the singer and saying they want to know the things they do are right. Throughout the song, it repeats  that, “I’m easy like Sunday morning,” affirming that the overall result of the change was positive.

Here are some of the lyrics:

Know it sounds funny

But I just can’t stand the pain

Girl I’m leaving you tomorrow

Seems to me girl

You know I’ve done all I can

You see I begged, stole

And I borrowed

Ooh, that’s why I’m easy

I’m easy like Sunday morning

That’s why I’m easy

I’m easy like Sunday morning
