Football Songs? Try This Variation

Three football players in uniforms and helmets, with a referee in the background.

It’s true – there aren’t many singable songs about football. Nothing as great as “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,”  for sure.

The song “You Gotta Be A Football Hero” is one option, but having been written in 1933, the lyrics are a bit outdated for many of us living in the 21st century.

Jock jams and stadium rock work well, too. In our music-making groups, folks have enjoyed “We Will Rock You” and “Eye of the Tiger.”

But if you’re still looking for a song to celebrate American Football, try this adapted version of that baseball hit “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” written in the music therapy group at Platte Senior Services in Kansas City, MO.

Take me out to the football game

Take me out with the crowd

Buy me a hot dog and beer for now

I don’t care if we ever go home

Let me root, root, root for the home team

If they don’t win, it’s a shame

For it’s 30, 20, 10 yards – TOUCHDOWN!

At the football game!

Of course, we highly suggest substituting “Chiefs” for “home team” and “Super Bowl” for “football game!”

Happy singing!
