If you’re reading this, I know you are passionate about music therapy. I bet you know in the very depths of your soul that you are meant to be sharing music with people in healthcare and education settings. But when it comes to business, you stumble.
Can you relate?
- You feel helpless when it comes to the business end of music therapy. You think, “why didn’t they teach us this in school?!?”
- You get tongue-tied when someone asks you to explain music therapy. You’re so passionate about your work, but you suspect your message isn’t getting through.
- You’re exhausted from trying to find the right person to talk to and making no headway, even though it seems like you’ve contacted every person you can think of.
- You’ve done a ton of WORK in establishing your practice, but no one is calling you to set up a contract.
- You wonder whether earning one more degree or one more certification will finally give you the qualifications you need to get that dream contract – but you suspect that it’s still the business skills you need to make things happen.
- You can’t sleep at night, worrying that you’ll have to give up on your passion for music therapy and get a job in another setting or another field.
I’ve been through all of these thoughts and feelings over my years of practice. I know firsthand how HARD it is to keep going when it seems like that ideal music therapy contract is just out of reach. It sucks. But there is an alternative. What if you could get the help you need to land your ideal contract?
How is this for a dream scenario?
You’re walking into a final meeting with your ideal partner, and you cannot wait to deliver your proposal.
You know that they’re an awesome organization and that you’ve designed the music therapy program that is perfect for them.
You know this program meets your business needs, too. You will be paid what you deserve for the wonderful work you do.
You cannot wait to see your first client (and receive your first check!)
You are so excited, you could burst!
You are confident and prepared and ready to rock their world.
This scenario is totally possible. You can live out your vision for music therapy work.
Who Am I To Help You With This?
You and I share a passion for music therapy. I’ve been doing music therapy for more than a decade, gradually narrowing my focus to work with older adults and people in end-of-life-care. I treasure the times I get to spend sharing music with people, and I feel tremendously honored to have the opportunity to do this work.
I’ve also been through the wringer when it comes to getting work as a music therapist and growing a business that fits my passion. In my 13 years of practice, I’ve started businesses in two cities, and I’ve developed contracts with dozens of companies. These contracts have run the gamut from tiny nursing home contracts to huge referral-based hospice programs, regular groups in residential care for adolescents to one-time drum circles for retreats for cancer survivors. Now the Soundscaping Source team has grown bigger than me, and we are continuing to pursue new contracts for music therapists in Kansas City to fill.
For the last few years, I’ve also been helping other music therapists define and refine their business relationships with hospices, senior living communities, and other healthcare organizations. I love teaching MTs about all the nuances of the healthcare business, and then helping them distill this information down into something they can apply to their own individual situation, in their own corner of the world.
Since 2014, I’ve been helping music therapy business owners address the nitty gritty of getting contract work in a variety of healthcare and education settings. I can’t wait to help some more wonderful MTs get themselves out there serving clients (and making the money they deserve!)
Are you ready for me to help you?
Introducing…
Rock That Contract
What We’ll Accomplish Together
The Rock That Contract program is designed to give you the training and support that you need to land your next music therapy contract. In our 60-Day program, you will:
- Learn how to choose the right organizations to target for contracting opportunities.
- Learn how to find the right stakeholders to move your program through and how to nourish your relationships with them.
- Develop the materials you need to present a proposal and start running your music therapy program as soon as they sign on the dotted line.
- Deepen your understanding of the healthcare industry – from a business perspective, not just a clinical one.
But more than just learning important information, you will get my full support in putting this new knowledge into action. You will:
- Gain confidence in reaching out to stakeholders.
- Be challenged to stretch outside your comfort zone.
- Be held accountable for the actions you say you’re going to make.
- Feel the support of other MTs doing the same tough business development work
- Celebrate your successes with people who understand the process
(If you’ve ever been to a business-building session at conference and then found yourself in the exact same place months (or years!) later, you know that having support and accountability to put this information into action is vital!)
This Is How We’ll Rock It
Our journey together comes in three big steps over 60 days, beginning with a self-assessment, and ending with your plan of action laid out for the next 90 days.
Before We Begin
To make sure you’re ready to dig in, we’ll start by getting you ready for the business development process. That means assessing where you are now and defining your vision for where you want to go with your work. We dream big, then get down to business.
Module 1: Identify The Right Organization
In this first step, you’ll figure out where it is you want that first contract to be. You’ll gain a clearer understanding of the healthcare industry as a whole and start doing market research in your local area. You’ll learn how to build up and draw from your professional network so that you can find out what you need to know about the organizations in your area that you may want to serve. This will prepare you to choose the one or two organizations to get your attention first.
Module 2: Build Relationships
Once you identify the organizations you want to serve, you must start building relationships with their people. In this step, you will identify the stakeholders and decision makers within the organizations you are targeting. You’ll learn strategies for getting in contact with those key players by phone, email, mail, and in-person meetings. You’ll discover how to position yourself and your business as you meet with people, and you’ll learn how to address common questions and concerns from decision-makers. And, I’ll be with you all the way as you start reaching out. We’ll take fear and overwhelm out of the picture as you move forward.
Modu
le 3: Define Your Program
In this step, you’ll design your dream program, and we’ll get down to the nitty- gritty of what to propose to your chosen organization. We’ll talk about contracts and organizational policies, and we’ll consider the procedures and documentation that you’ll need to put in place so that your program is a successful one. We’ll also think beyond the music therapy session to other services you could provide to an organization, including staff education and consultation.
Define The Next 90 Days
When our program ends, you won’t be left hanging! By the end of this program, you’ll be confident and prepared, ready to step into your next 90 days with an action plan for building on your momentum as you develop your business.
Here’s What You Get
#1. Online Training
For each of the 3 modules described above, you’ll get video training and action guides in our password-protected online training center. Each step is broken down into bite-sized videos so you don’t get overwhelmed and action guides to keep you moving forward.
#2. Small Group Coaching
We have three group coaching sessions scheduled during our program, with one focused on each module. During these video conferences, I’ll answer any questions you have about the training materials, and we’ll talk about how to apply what you’re learning to your unique situation. Most importantly, I’ll help you get past the overwhelm and fear that is keeping you from taking action.
#3. Private Coaching
In addition to our group calls, you get one dedicated 1:1 call with me, to talk about anything having to do with your business. You’ll be amazed at how much we can accomplish in this short, focused time together.
#4. Small Group Forum For Ongoing Support
Between our calls, you’ll find the support you need in our private Facebook group, just for the people in the Rock That Contract program. Here you get to ask questions, bounce your ideas off others, and share the successes you’ve had in putting your new knowledge into action.
#5. Done-For-You Materials
Creating documents from scratch? You ain’t got time for that! This is why you’ll have access to done-for-you materials and templates ready to download and adapt for your purposes as you research your market, connect with stakeholders, and propose your program.
#6. One Central Place for Everything You Need
All of the trainings, done-for-you-materials and templates, call recordings, schedules, and other information will be housed in one user-friendly website. Got a question? You’ll find it here. (And if you can’t, email us for an answer ASAP!)
BONUS: MTBO Expert Interviews
As an extra gift, you’ll get to listen in on hour-long interview with TWO rock star music therapy business owners. You’ll hear from Kat Fulton, founder of MusicTherapyEd.com and Sound Health Music, and Jona Jeffcoat, founder of Infinity Music Therapy Services.
Between the two of them, they have contracts in about every clinical setting you can imagine, plus clinics for private clients. Their businesses have served many hundreds of clients and have employed dozens of music therapists. The wisdom they share in these interviews might just be priceless.
BONUS: Two Months in MT Insider
As an added bonus, you’ll also get access to MT Insider, our monthly membership program for music therapy business owners and clinicians.
Here you can connect with peer support in our private Facebook group, and you’ll have access to a ton of downloadable online resources related to music therapy business and clinical work.
You’ll also have access to office hours with me – your opportunity to have a private laser coaching session focused on whatever issues are on your mind.
This means up to four additional private laser coaching sessions during your time in Rock That Practice – a $350 value by itself!
This is going to be AWESOME, and we are going to ROCK IT!
But you don’t have to take my word for it…

From past participants in our programs:
Are You Ready To Rock?
I cannot wait to walk with you through the process of developing music therapy contracts. You will get ongoing access to the information and tools you need to do it – way more than a typical CMTE course. Of course, information only takes you so far – it is the motivation and support and shared experience you’ll get from this program – from someone who knows exactly what you’re going through – that will make the difference for you.
You could keep doing this on your own – using all your spare time to read articles and books and delve into the mysteries of the healthcare industry, taking random CMTEs, running into obstacles without anyone to help you navigate them, doing all of your work in isolation, with no one to cheer you on. Honestly, this is the route I chose as a new music therapist. It was not a good idea. I really wish I could have that time back.
DIY Cost = RIDICULOUS amounts of time and energy (believe me, I know)
Or you could start from scratch with a private business coach. You’d get a business expert and cheerleader on your side, but you might spend a ton of time teaching THEM about music therapy and learning on those calls some of the business skills and procedures that you’d get in a more methodical and cost-effective way from Rock That Contract. (In fact, I no longer accept private coaching clients who haven’t completed this program – I’d rather you be efficient with your time and money.)
Private Coaching Cost = $5000+ and time to educate
Or, you could Rock That Contract with your fellow MTs. In 60 days, you’ll be well on your way to landing your new music therapy contract. A few months into that new contract, you’ll have earned back your investment in this program, AND you’ll have more of the skills and systems you need to get more contracts in the future.
